Electrical Safety Program

OSHA requires employers to maintain a written safety program.  In general they state. "Safety-related work practices shall be employed to prevent electric shock or other injuries resulting from either direct or indirect electrical contacts, when work is performed near or on equipment or circuits which are or may be energized.  The specific safety-related work practices shall be consistent with the nature and extent of the associated electrical hazards." 1910.333(a)

It must be "available for inspection by employees and by the Assistant Secretary of Labor and his or her authorized representatives." 1910.333(b)(2)(i)

While OSHA does not specifically enforce NFPA 70E, they do depend heavily on this standard to measure compliance with regard to worker safety.  NFPA 70E requires a written Electrical Safety Program.  NFPA 70E 110.7(A)

Each company may have specific jobs and tasks that must be addressed however every program must address Program Principles (NFPA 70E 110.7(C), Program Controls (110.7(D)), and Program Procedures. NFPA 70E 110.7(E)
